The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains a variety of requirements for the handling of electrical and electronic equipment. The most important ones are compiled here.
1. Separate recording of old equipment
Waste electrical and electronic equipment has been designated as waste. Owners of old equipment have to divest this one from the unsorted municipal waste separately. Old appliances do not belong in particular to household refuse but to special collection and return systems.
2. Batteries and accumulators
Owners of old equipment have to separate old batteries and accumulators, which are not enclosed by the old equipment, in a normal case before handing it off at a detection point. This does not apply in so far as the equipment is disposed of with public waste disposal authorities and is separated there for the purpose of preparing for the reuse of other waste equipment.
3. Possibilities of returning old equipment
Owners of old appliances from private households can hand them over to collection points of public waste disposal authorities or to the return points set up by manufacturers or distributors as defined by the ElektroG. An online directory of the collection and return points can be found here: https://www.ear-system.de/ear-verzeichnis/sammel-und-ruecknahmestellen.jsf
4. Privacy Notice
Old devices often contain sensitive personal data. This applies in particular to information and telecommunication equipment, such as computers and smartphones. In your own interest, please note that every end user is responsible for the deletion of the data on the old devices to be disposed of.
5. Meaning of the symbol "swept garbage can"
The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, which is regularly displayed on the electrical and electronic equipment
indicates that at the end of its service life the respective device must be recorded separately from the unsorted municipal waste..
